 Abstract:  The Forbes Chocolate Company was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1901 as a manufacturer of chocolate products. The company filed for bankruptcy after World War I, and was reborn as a manufacturer of powered chocolate for milk and ice cream. The collection consists of company magazines, correspondence, declaration of trust, financial records, party guest lists, industry histories, newspaper clippings, Ohio Historical Society Archives inventories, product labels and stock holders information.

 Abstract:  The Ajax Manufacturing Company was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1875 by John Rollin Blakeslee (1843-1906). Ajax manufactured forging equipment and cold drawing equipment for the cold-heading industry. Ajax forging machines were used in the railroad, agricultural, and automotive industries. In 1925, Ajax moved to Euclid, Ohio. The company was family-owned and operated until 1987 when it was sold to the Crawford Group. In 1996, Ajax was again sold, this time to Park-Ohio Industries. The collection consists of advertisements, agreements, biographies, bulletins, catalogs, correspondence, histories, lists, manuals, photographs, purchase orders, reprints, and a term paper.

 Abstract:  Ray's Sausage Company has been located in Cleveland, Ohio, on the corner of East 123rd Street and Imperial Avenue since it was founded by Ray Cash in 1952. The company factory manufactured and sold pure pork, beef sausage, pork and beef links, head cheese, and meat souse. The collection consists of advertisement information, client reports, competitor advertisements, delivery logs, delivery receipts, expense sheets, financial reports, financial summaries, government agency forms and tax information, inventories, meat industry pamphlets, newspaper clippings, personal papers, product packages and information, supplier lists and supplier receipts.

 Abstract:  The Western Reserve Manuscripts is a collection of small manuscript accessions that have been donated to the Western Reserve Historical Society since its founding in 1867. These manuscripts often consist of one document but can include multiple items contained in one folder. This collection of material documents numerous subjects and themes in the history of Cleveland, Ohio, and the region of northeast Ohio known as the Western Reserve. The collection consists of advertisements, agreements, applications, articles, autobiographies, autograph books and autographs, biographical sketches, certificates, correspondence, deeds, diaries, drawings, envelopes, genealogies, histories, indentures, invoices, letters, lists, manuscripts, memoranda, newspaper clippings, notes, papers, photographs, poems, receipts, reports, scripts, speech transcripts, telegrams, and other material. Western Reserve Historical Society library staff began to describe these manuscripts in this finding aid in 2015. This is an ongoing project that will be updated for public access as the project progresses in real time.

 Abstract:  Adolph Wunderlich (ca. 1869-1942) was an inventor, engineer, and businessman who was born in Buffalo, New York, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, as a child. He held patents for inventions and improvements on electric arc lamps, hoisting and lowering mechanisms, suspension devices for electric arc lamps, winches, lubricating devices, and caulking devices. He lived in England from 1898-1912 where he installed London's first street lights and headed his own electrical firm. He founded the Western Reserve Manufacturing Works in Cleveland in 1914. The collection consists of advertisements, agreements, apprenticeship records, catalogs, certificates, correspondence, extracts, financial documents, instructions, legal documents, memoranda, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, patents, a scorecard, and a will.

 Abstract:  Potter and Mellen, Inc., was a prominent Cleveland, Ohio, jewelry store. Founded in 1900 by Horace Potter, the company has been known as Potter Studio and Potter Bentley Studios. In 1933, Potter partnered with Louis Mellen to create Potter and Mellen. The company was sold to Ellen Stirn in 1989, and she expanded the company's products and services to include antiques and giftware. The collection consists of customer ledger books and giftware directories.

 Abstract:  Garrett A. Morgan (1877-1963) was an African American entrepreneur and inventor whose inventions included an electric traffic signal and gas mask. Morgan moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1895 and opened his own sewing machine sales and repair shop in 1907. He received a patent on his gas mask in 1912 and formed the National Safety Device Company to manufacture and market it. He also established the G.A. Morgan Hair Refining Company, The Cleveland Call and Post, and the Wakeman Country Club for African Americans. The collection consists of a scrapbook that contains mostly newspaper articles and clippings, but also includes letters detailing the success of his products, magazine clippings, pamphlets, photocopied autobiography samples, photographs, product order requests, and a subscription and induction notice to the National Geographic Society.
